Welcome to our new website! We’re thrilled to have you join us as we continue to celebrate the rich history and exciting future of J&M Stables.
Our story begins in the 1940s when Grandpa Stanley Silloway purchased a piece of land in Westfield, known on the town map as Poverty Plains. Back then, it was an active chicken farm, Silloway Poultry. Unfortunately, a virus outbreak forced the end of chicken farming in our area.
Undeterred, Stanley pivoted and established the Silloway Dairy Farm. The first white building you see as you drive in was the original milk parlor. The farm thrived until the 1970s when Stanley passed away, leaving the farm to his beloved wife, Elizabeth.
In 1979, Stanley’s youngest daughter, our mother Mary, transitioned the farm into an equine boarding facility with her then-husband, James. Thus, the barn became J&M Stables, a name that has stood the test of time.
In 2007, Clay (Mary’s Son) met Vanessa, a passionate horse lover. They married in 2015 and officially formed the J&M Stables LLC in 2016. Since then, the farm has expanded tremendously, especially post-COVID.
Today, J&M Stables is a vibrant and growing facility. We’ve added a new barn with additional stalls, an indoor arena, and an announcer’s booth for events. We lovingly call our new space The Hollywood Electric Arena at J&M Stables, in honor of our dear friend Jimmy Novak.
Our stables now span over thirty acres of mixed land, offering a variety of riding experiences. Whether you prefer the indoor arena, outdoor lit round pen, cleared field, or scenic trails, there’s something here for every horse enthusiast.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to sharing many more memories with you at J&M Stables.
Happy riding!
